Schools drop everything and read


No matter what you’re doing Monday morning, librarians want you to drop everything and read.

As part of National School Library Day, an initiative to promote literacy, Drop Everything and Read hopes to get as many people reading at the same time, on the same day, as possible.

•23 students, 1 teacher, 1CEA
•“read to self” for 20 min (have only read independently for 15 min prior to today)

Mr. Fitzgerald (grade 4)
•27 students, 1 teacher
•Teacher read aloud a chapter from a book
•Last 12 min was independent reading

Mr. McLeod (grade 4/5)
•24 students, 1 teacher
•Teacher read aloud “scary” short stories

Mrs. MacKenzie (grade 5)
•25 students, 1 teacher, 1 student teacher
•Read independently

Ms. Pauls (grade 5/6)
•26 students, 1 teacher, 1 CEA
•Read independently

Mr. Durrer (grade 6)
•26 students, 1 teacher, 1CEA
•Independent reading (all but 2 resource students)
•2 resource students- 1 read aloud to the other (with CEA in a separate room)


STATS:
Total # students reading: 273/274 (99.6%)
Total # staff reading: 22/23 (95.6%, including a parent helper and student teacher)
